How does Calocurb work?

The active ingredient in Calocurb is Amarasate™ – a specific New Zealand grown hops flower extract developed by Plant & Food Research, the largest Crown Research Institute in New Zealand.
Calocurb’s hop flower extract contains high levels of alpha acids – a recognised bitter compound. Research has demonstrated that bitter compounds decrease calorie consumption. In clinical research, Calocurb has been shown to reduce calorie intake by around 20% at meal or snack time.
Calocurb’s patented capsule makes sure the hops flower extract is delivered and released directly in the small intestine where it’s most effective.

Is Calocurb a silver bullet for weight loss?

While Calocurb helps control appetite, there are no silver bullets or magic pills when it comes to sustainable weight loss.
However, when used in conjunction with a healthy lifestyle, Calocurb can be a reliable and effective tool to help reduce calorie intake and support those working towards weight management goals.

Is Calocurb safe to take?

A panel of five independent scientists recognized calocurb as GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe). That’s not surprising considering Calocurb only contains three natural ingredients - hops flower, rosemary leaf and canola seed oil. None of which are associated with any long-term side effects.
That said, Calocurb is not intended for use by anyone under 18 years of age or for women who are trying to get pregnant, pregnant or breastfeeding.
As with any dietary supplement, concerned customers should consult their healthcare provider before using Calocurb. Especially those with a medical condition, who are taking medications, or have known adverse reactions or allergies.

How long does a Calocurb capsule last?

Most people will feel the effect of Calocurb for several hours after taking a capsule. That is why we recommend taking your 1st capsule at 9am to help you complete your fast.

How should I take Calocurb?

Calocurb is designed to work around you, so everyone's routine will be a little different. In your first order, we will supply you with an intermittent fasting schedule which includes when to take your Calocurb to get the best results.
We recommend taking one at 9 am and fasting until noon. Having one Calocurb at 9 am will help you complete your fast with no hunger pangs. If needed, take another Calocurb at 5 pm, to control your portion sizes for dinner and don't feel like snacking in the evening. Your fasting window begins again at 8 pm.
Remember to keep up your fluid intake, lots of water and you can have black coffee and tea while you are fasting!

Is Calocurb right for me?

Are there any side-effects of taking Calocurb?

Most people who try calocurb will experience no side effects. That said, individual physiological differences mean that some people may experience mild side effects associated with the biological effects of ingesting bitter compounds.

calocurb’s hop flower extract contains high levels of alpha – a recognised bitter compound. Research has demonstrated that bitter compounds support a feeling of fullness or satiety. With calocurb’s patent-pending capsule, the hop flower extract is delivered and, with the help of canola seed oil, released directly in the small intestine where it’s most effective.

In addition to supporting a feeling of fullness, bitter compounds can be associated with the effects of a mild laxative such as:
- Increased wind
- Stomach irritation
- Loose or more frequent bowel movements
- Indigestion

These are entirely normal reactions and demonstrate that the hops flower extract is having an effect.

Of those customers experiencing side effects, most report that these steadily reduce the longer they take calocurb. It can take the body time to adjust to regular doses of the extract - even if it is plant based and all natural.

For those whom calocurb just isn’t a good fit - we of course offer a 30-day money back guarantee, no questions asked so please get in touch.

Are there any long-term side-effects of taking calocurb?

A panel of five independent scientists recognised calocurb as GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe). That’s not surprising considering calocurb only contains three common ingredients - hops flower, rosemary leaf and canola seed oil. None of which are associated with any long-term side effects.

Are there any clinical trials behind calocurb?

A randomised, double-blind, placebo controlled cross-over trial of Amarasate™ across 19 healthy men demonstrated a calorie intake reduction of around 20% across meal and snack time. For more information visit the Plant and Food website here.

What future research do you have planned for calocurb?

The next steps for Amarasate™ include trials across a sample of woman and research into the effectiveness of different dosages.  For more information visit the Plant and Food website here.

Is calocurb FDA approved?

By law, the FDA does not approve dietary supplements. But, the FDA does regulate both dietary supplements and dietary ingredients. calocurb follows "current Good Manufacturing Practice" (cGMP) regulations requiring that manufacturers evaluate their products through testing identity, purity, strength, and composition.

What is the science behind calocurb?

calocurb activates a natural, evolutionary response in the body through a combination of 100% plant-based ingredients and patented, delayed-release capsule technology. We like to think of it as old science meeting new.

In developing calocurb, scientists at Plant & Food Research (New Zealand’s largest Crown Research Institute) worked on a six-year project to screen more than 900 plants to find the most effective, all-natural appetite suppressing compound.

A New Zealand hops flower extract came out on top and progressed through clinical testing, where it was shown to reduce calorie intake across meals and snacks by around 20% or a megajoule - that’s 240 calories or the equivalent or a muffin, donut or sandwich. We call this hops flower extract Amarasate – the active ingredient in calocurb.

calocurb works by activating ‘the bitter brake’, an evolutionary mechanism designed to help early humans steer clear of dangerous food. ‘The bitter brake’ occurs when bitter compounds (in this case, a hops flower extract) interact with specific receptors in the gut to send a ‘stop- eating signal’ to the brain.

Plant & Food Research first presented the project to the 2016 European Obesity summit. You can find that whole paper here or read press overviews from The Daily Mail or New Zealand Herald.

Our partner’s at Plant & Food Research have also produced a snappy little video that demonstrates ‘the bitter brake’ in action and, if you’re interested in the properties, research and safety of hops flower in general, you can find more information at our healthcare professionals page.

The next step for Amarasate and the bitter brake is the peer review process and further trials – both are currently underway.

How do you know that calocurb is a vegetarian/gluten free product?

As a 100% plant-based, natural product, being verifiably vegetarian/gluten free is crucial for calocurb and our customers. We are proud to confirm that all our ingredients, including the capsule, are 100% plant-based and certifiably vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free.

What is the main active ingredient in calocurb?

The active ingredient in calocurb is Amarasate™ extract – a New Zealand grown hops flower extract developed by Plant & Food Research, the largest Crown Research Institute in New Zealand.

Do the capsules themselves taste bitter?

calocurb capsules are tasteless. Some customers may however notice a slight taste of hops on the breath after taking a capsule – similar to the taste of a hoppy craft beer.

Where does the Amarasate™ extract come from?

The Amarasate™ extract is derived from a specific hops flower variety grown commercially near Nelson in the South Island of New Zealand. It was developed by a team at Plant & Food Research, the largest Crown Research Institute in New Zealand.

Why canola oil?

Alongside our special capsule, canola seed oil helps the hops flower extract release directly in the small intestine where it gets to work. The canola oil in calocurb is certified GMO free, cold-pressed refined and sourced in the USA. We’ll have more to share about our oil ingredient in the future (hint – we’re researching a New Zealand sourced oil.)
